   Fascinating story, but very frustrating to have just a partial image. Tormenting, really. And it seems a bit too neat that there is a 1:1 relationship to English.

      There isn’t a 1:1 relationship, so you are right to be suspicious of that. But hieroglyphs are interesting because they can be both like our alphabet (spelling out words more or less by sound) or representations of concepts on their own.
