Irina, idea expressed by phrase “survival of the fittest” has nothing to do with scientific theory of evolution. It belongs to so called “social Darwinism” which has never been accepted as science. That is why your suggestion that compassion contradicts theory of evolution is actually erroneous.

Valery, there is no suggestion that compassion contradicts the theory of evolution. The suggestion, rather, and it is not mine, is that compassion is a driving force of evolution, but greatly overlooked. What the idea contradicts are long-held, perhaps wrong, beliefs.
