This finding indicates that the domestication of chickens arrived in what is now southern Israel 2500 years ago. It did not necessarily originate there. It could have originated further east and made its way there along the trade routes.
While that’s certainly possible this is the earliest evidence we have so far, which is quite interesting! In the absence of further evidence it’s equally likely that these researchers are correct and that domesticated chickens passed from Tel Maresha to elsewhere.
